June: Push Hands in the Park

By Chris Leave a Comment

It’s on again, our friendly Push Hands in the park session. Here are the details:

  •     Sunday, 30 June
  •     10.00am-12 noon
  •     Fawkner Park – South Yarra (Armadale Road entrance), Melbourne, Australia
  •     Friendly, non-competitive push hands (tui shou) practice and play for anyone – old, young, beginners, masters
  •     Team up with someone and discuss what you’d like to do – and what you’d not like to do!
  •     Ten minute exchanges timed by a bell – but you can rest as well!
  •      Learn, share and enjoy

I hope to be there again so come along and join in on the fun.

Compulsory Tai Chi

By Chris Leave a Comment

I have a fixed routine for my Tai Chi training, six days a week, but occasionally I get so busy that I can’t fit everything in.

When this occurs I make sure, at the very least, I do my stance training – it’s what I call my ‘compulsory Tai Chi’ training.

There are three reasons why I need to do my stance training regardless of my work load;

Feedback for a Tai Chi Teacher

By Chris Leave a Comment

I was practising my ’embrace the tree’ posture the other morning and wasn’t sure if my knees were behind my toes or over them.

I looked in the mirror but I still could not determine whether I was practising correctly; the knees should be just behind the toes otherwise you will strain your knees.

Tai Chi On The Run

By Chris Leave a Comment

Things are getting very busy here so it’s difficult to fit in my Tai Chi training during the day.

When I’m working in my home office I can regulate my 3 sessions of training throughout the day but out on the road I have to find the time to practice my Tai Chi.

I may have Chair Chi sessions for aged care centres or wellbeing programs for primary, secondary students or major assignments in facilitation and training which I run with Sue James my business partner in BJ Seminars International; sometimes it involves interstate and the occassional trip overseas.

Tai Chi 20 Minute Wonder

By Chris Leave a Comment

I’ve finally achieved my target of holding the ’embrace the tree’ stance for 20 minutes and it feels great. It’s taken 20 weeks but I did it. Even my knees haven’t protested too much which is a blessing.

I was concerned at the start that my knees would react in a negative way as they have done in the past when I tried to practice mid to low stances. I stopped doing those stances a long time ago to avoid the pain and damage to my knees (left knee weakened due to a previous injury). Please note that low and medium stances are beneficial and a very good workout if your knees can handle them. My knees can’t.
