Chair Chi: 7 Workshops in 4 Days

By Chris Leave a Comment

It’s been a very busy week running 7 chair chi sessions in 4 days for various aged care centres here in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne.

It can be tiring running around to different locations and putting the energy into delivering workshops plus the other work I do with Sue James in our shared business BJ Seminars International but every time I finish a session I feel uplifted and most of the tiredness vanishes.

Good Chair Chi Feedback

By Chris Leave a Comment

Well that was a lovely session of Chair Chi at one of my regular aged care centres today.

Not only was the session great fun but on the way out the Diversional Therapist called me over and wanted to tell me something.

Chair Chi: Una Due Tre Quattro Cinque

By Chris Leave a Comment

I had another delightful experience during a Chair Chi session at an aged care centre.

One of the residents, 99-years-old, Italian background, spoke little English, was watching me intently as I demonstrated an exercise that helps relieve arthritis. I counted out each movement in English; 1,2,3,4,5 and then in Italian; una, due, tre, quattro, cinque.

Chair Chi for Teachers

By Chris Leave a Comment

I had a very busy week last week delivering Chair Chi workshops for residents in aged care centres and teachers in schools – nine workshops in total!

The Chair Chi sessions for teachers started early this term; after sending out an expression of interest I’ve had four schools interested and booked. One school wanted a four week program which I’m half way through now.

Chair Chi Statistics: The Big Eight

By Chris Leave a Comment

I was going through my notes on the Chair Chi sessions I’ve run for residents in aged care centres here in Melbourne (outer eastern suburbs) and discovered some interesting statistics.

  1. First session: August 2012
  2. Total sessions: 72 (includes 3 presentations)
  3. Aged care centres: 20
  4. Oldest resident: 104 (almost 105)
  5. Oldest group: 1543 years (1 x 103-year-old & 16 x 90-year-olds)
  6. Oldest Husband and Wife: 98 and 94 years-old (married for 74 years)
  7. Regular bookings: 12 aged care centres
  8. Work with low care and high care residents

I’m currently working on new workshops for residents, a staff development program and a conference/meetings presentation which hopefully will add to the statistics above and to the enjoyment of working in the aged care sector.
