Tai Chi: Standing Forever

By Chris Leave a Comment

I really should use my mobile phone stop watch instead of my small, old, electronic kitchen clock when I’m training.

This morning I got up early as usual to practice my embrace the tree posture, set my kitchen clock to count down from 20 minutes to zero. I pressed the start button and checked to see if it was working and stepped back into the posture.

I normally count each breath and usually 600 breaths takes me to 20 minutes as the alarm clock starts to beep.

Well, this time I was well passed my count and and the alarm clock didn’t sound.

I waited, and waited and waited as my legs started to shake. Finally I took the chance and shuffled forward to check the clock.

Guess what?

It was not working. Somehow it failed to start and was stuck on 19 minutes 59 seconds.

That ‘one second’ felt like I was standing forever.
