Chair Chi: A Decent Workout

By Chris Leave a Comment

chair-chi-training-picHe wasn’t exhausted or in pain when I asked him, ‘how do you feel now’ after our one hour Chair Chi session at an aged care centre yesterday.

He said, ‘I feel like I’ve trained for a week’!

I’m a hard task master – you have to be when you are working with 60-100 year olds 🙂

Chair Chi Plus: 81-96 year olds

By Chris Leave a Comment

chair-chi-training-picLast week I finished the Chair Chi Plus Pilot study at Craigcare Residential Aged Care centre here in Melbourne, Australia and here’s some interesting numbers from the program:

  • Residents Age Range: 81-96 years old
  • Pilot Study Duration: 6 weeks
  • Sessions: 30 minutes – 3 times a week
  • Total sessions: 16
  • Pulse taken: 3 times during each session – resting – mid way – end of session
  • Total participants: 6 high care residents
  • Attendance: 4 residents = 16/16, 1 resident = 10/16, 1 resident 9/16

These numbers plus other statistics and feedback will be part of the report I’m now putting together to determine if the following aims of the study were met:

  • increase in leg strength
  • improved balance
  • achieved cardiovascular workout
  • enhanced emotional and pyschological well being

If you are interested in the final report please contact me and I’ll email you a copy – there’s no charge for the report.

Chair Chi Workshops Galore

By Chris Leave a Comment

chair-chi-training-picWell, it’s  been a very busy year and I’ve done some number crunching regarding the Chair Chi workshops I delivered for 2014.

Here’s the breakdown:

279 for aged care centres
3 for school teachers

That’s an average of about 5 workshops per week for 14 regular clients.

Also I’ve run Chair Chi Training workshops in Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney and Brisbane.

So all up I’ve delivered 287 workshops!

I’m booked out for 2015 as far as Chair Chi workshops for aged care residents go, but we’ve planned Chair Chi Training Level One and Level Two workshops for aged care staff in Melbourne, Vic country (Sale, Shepparton, Bendigo), Adelaide, Sydney, and Brisbane.

I’m also looking at the possibility of providing Chair Chi Training Level One and Two overseas – more about that later.

I hope everyone has a very happy Christmas and great new year.

As I’m working on a proposal to possibly deliver my new Chair Chi Training Program to a major educational institution, I’ve discovered I’ve delivered  over 180 workshops in 12 months.
