Tai Chi: Line Alignment

By Chris Leave a Comment

When I’m practicing Tai Chi or Chair Chi exercises I sometimes use a visualisation technique to make sure my body is correctly aligned.

For example, if I’m in the preparation stance in Tai Chi and about to commence the form I imagine there’s a straight line from the BaiHui point (middle of the skull) through to my hui yin point (perenium – between the anus and genitals).

I focus on the line and adjust my body to it to make sure I’m correctly aligned. I also do this when I’m seated, just before I start my Chair Chi exercises.

Every now and again I focus on the line to make sure I haven’t drifted from the correct posture.

The line alignment technique is a quick and easy way to check your alignment.

Footnote: Baihui point can be located at the intersection of a line running along the middle (front to back) of the skull and a line running across from ear to ear.
