Boring Tai Chi Form?

By Chris Leave a Comment

I happened to catch a thread on a Tai Chi discussion group and one person mentioned he was bored with the Tai Chi form.

Well, I nearly fell out my chair when I read this and thought, ‘how could you become bored with a Tai Chi form?’ I’ve been practising the Wu style form for twenty five years and I’m still fascinated by the intricacies of the form.

As confucius once said, ‘a thousand mile journey begins with one step. And ‘learning’ the form is the first step in that thousand mile journey.

Here’s just some of things to concentrate on once you have ‘learned’ the form;

– Correct structure
– Yin/yang
– Weighting
– Breathing
– Chi
– Self defence applications
– Sung (relaxation)

Of course you can’t concentrate on all of these at the one time but you can focus on one point each time you do your practice.

If you do what I’ve suggested you won’t be bored – you will be fascinated by the depth there is to Tai Chi. And after a great deal of practice you will really learn the form.
